Institute for Computational Cosmology
The Institute for Computational Cosmology (ICC) is a leading international centre for research into the origin and evolution of the Universe at Durham University.
We use computer simulations to address some of the most fundamental questions in science: What were the first objects in the Universe? How do galaxies and black holes form? What is the nature of the dark matter and dark energy? How do planetary systems form and evolve? Where does the large-scale structure of the universe come from?
In doing so, we innovate in computer software and hardware, building advanced systems, moving towards net-zero, and developing new algorithms and codes.
With the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology, we are part of the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics. We also work closely with the broader Durham astronomy community (comprised of the Centre for Extragalactic Astronomy and the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation).
